    The package

Lenovo Phab 2 is sold in long thin cardboard box. This form is due to the location of the USB cable and charging unit supplied. They are not directly under the mobile, as usual, and the top and bottom in the box. Thus we get an oblong box that resembles the packaging from the keyboard. Set the most common, as befits a modern smartphone: a device charging black and black USB cable.

    Design, Assembly and materials

Design Lenovo Phab 2 – a typical candy bar. It has a collapsible design and metal body and polycarbonate. After you get the smartphone out of the box, the impression is that it is metal. It’s part of this: the case has a metal perimeter frame and a plastic back cover.

But plastic is so high quality that it is easily confused with the metal. Plus – it is painted in the color of the metal frame. Only offered two colors Lenovo Phab 2 – metal gray and Golden, as in our survey. Well, that’s right: one male and one female version.

The location of the following items: a micro USB port on the bottom, there’s speaker and microphone. There is another microphone and a 3.5 mm audio output. At the back edge has one camera with dual led flash and logo of the company Lenovo with Dolby Atmos. On the right side blowing: corrugated key lock and dual volume controls. The left side is almost empty, there is only one hybrid SIM tray.

On the front face mounted display, a set of sensors, LED notification light and the three touch keys under the screen. As you can see, dual cameras, scanners and other things here. Dimensions Lenovo Phab 2 are 175 mm in height, 89 mm in width and 9.6 mm in thickness. The smartphone weighs 225 grams, its weight feels in your hand, but no more. It’s not the camera, which is convenient to operate with one hand, but this can be said about almost all 6.4-inch smartphones.

As for Assembly, it was good. Even the plastic back cover is long lasting and remains intact, heroically resisting scratches. But still, over time, chips will appear on the back.

    Display and controls

As mentioned in the beginning of the review, the screen size of the Lenovo Phab 2 is an incredible 6.4 inch. The type of matrix used here is IPS, but its resolution is HD 1280×720p, 229 ppi. Although the HD-snost resolution, the pixels on the screen I didn’t notice it was thanks to their location in IPS matrices. In the inactive state, the display occupies almost the entire front face (edge to edge). But, when you turn it – around the screen surface are formed a black frame. They are wide enough to slightly spoil the first impression.

If you forget about the scope, then we have good IPS display with maximum responsiveness and support for 10 simultaneous touches on the screen according to AnTuTu multi touch test. With the screen all is well in terms of colour and responsiveness, but personally I lacked a bit the maximum level of brightness. In cloudy weather, under the clouds the screen is well read, but in bright sunlight it fades noticeably.

To help with navigation on the device, there are three standard Android touch keys below the display. From left to right: back, home, app Manager. The keys are backlit and the same excellent responsiveness, as does the screen. Another useful element on the front face Lenovo Phab 2 is a LED status indicator in the right corner of the screen. It shines blue and notifies you of missed events, like calls and SMS. In the inactive state do not see, so it does not spoil the appearance of the smartphone.

    CPU, memory, and performance

Heart Lenovo Phab 2 mobile processor, Taiwanese manufacturer MediaTek MT8735. This is a 64-bit system on chip that has 4 cores of Cortex A53 and operates at 1.3 GHz per core. Responsible for the graphics system ARM Mali-T720 MP2. The power of this processor is just on the border with the capabilities of the smartphone. For example, the maximum resolution supported from MT8735 is 1280×800 pixels and a resolution of Phab 2 – 1280×720p.

It’s not a very powerful processor, but for the needs of this unit it like. Lenovo 2 in Phab, you can play games, watch HD video and play around with the AR camera. The chipset cope with all these tasks. For fans of synthetic, in the benchmark AnTuTu he scored 34072 points, and Geekbench 4: 603 points in single core test and 1618 in the multicore test.

RAM will be 3 GB, of which about 1600 MB free and the flash memory is available 32 GB of which 25 GB user available for apps and files. What else can you say about the Lenovo Phab 2: this smartphone runs all the basic and important apps like YouTube, Messenger, mail, Gmail and Inbox, and various browsers and the app store Play Market. But outstanding performance from MT8735 still, not worth waiting.

    Operating system

As Lenovo Phab 2 was presented in the distant 2016, he is running the operating system Google Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Yes, the firmware is not the newest and updating the system didn’t come to it. The interface is slightly modified by the manufacturer and if the labels don’t look as good as on stock Android, but weather widgets and other things here are done very nicely.

Among the preinstalled software, you will encounter applications such as: Dolby, AccuWeather, McAfee, ShareIt and Netflix. System is stable even on not very powerful hardware. Among the special pieces is a control mode with one hand, which will be very useful for that screen. The rest is the usual Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

    Interfaces and connectivity

Lenovo Phab 2 has Bluetooth 4.0 A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/ n and GPS support (A-GPS) navigation. Wireless interfaces are working as expected, even in the presence of a micro USB port for charging and syncing, well, FM radio is also in place. Another feature of this smartphone – support Dolby Atmos (Dolby 5.1 Audio Capture), as evidenced by the markings on the back side of the device. The phone sounds fine, and thanks to active noise cancellation using a separate microphone, it is nice to talk to.

Of course, in Phab 2 has 3.5 mm audio output. When I was presented this smartphone, manufacturers it was not yet the fashion to replace “mini-Jack” the USB Type-C port. And last: there is no fingerprint scanner, so that data protection will need to set a PIN or pattern lock screen.

    Camera and sample images

Camera Lenovo 2 in Phab, at first glance, the usual. This 13-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture, dual led flash and phase detection autofocus PDAF. But not all so simple: Phab 2, like its predecessor, is able to work with more reality (AR). In the stock camera app has four preset demo mode, in which you can get to know what AR is a reality. The features of this camera are limited only by the imagination of application developers that make software for the AR.

The camera itself takes good idea, for smartphone of last year. Its characteristics include a wide aperture or large light-sensitive pixels, but the photos are quality with good detail and color reproduction. Front camera 5 MP, front no flash, quality of photos can be found below.

    Battery and autonomy

Battery capacity at Phab 2 is 4050 mAh, is it normal for such a diagonal measurement of the screen. The non-removable battery, disassembly of the impossible the manufacturer. Complete charging the unit provides maximum voltage and current 12V/2A, very powerful battery charger, which can charge even tablets. Full charging time of a smartphone is about 2-2.5 hours for fast charge here apparently not.

Lenovo Phab 2 is discharged slowly enough, personally for me he stayed about a day from a single full charge. But if you use it economically, it is fashionable to squeeze more ekrano hours. All will depend on your mode of operation.

    Usability and feedback

In General, Lenovo Phab 2 leaves a good impression, if you like large phones. In ergonomics, he reminds us Xiaomi Mi Max 2, but in size Phab 2 a little more. Among the advantages include the availability of AR-camera, and indeed, a good main camera on Board. And of course, autonomy: in this undemanding hardware and HD screen – a whole day is guaranteed to you. And if you cherish the charge, you can hold out longer.
